Life is Shattered

This little piece of stained glass was inspired by a recent event in my life.

A friend of more than 30-years suddenly died leaving behind a young child and wife.

I was thinking of him and his family and thought of how her life will be changed forever. Her life is shattered.

A sheet of glass is like our own life. All it takes is one event for it to shatter or break apart. The pieces can be picked up and put back together. But somehow, it never will be the same. There will always be a scar. There will always be a small piece missing.

Available here.

Whimsical Stained Glass Cross

Feeling whimsical yesterday - I sat down with a piece of scratch paper and drew a pattern for a stained glass cross to be made using various colors of the rainbow.

In addition to the pretty colors - I added curls of wire which are soldered between the glass pieces for added strength.

This piece is available for sale here.

Swiss Glass in Progress

So, the progress of the Swiss Glass piece is coming along nicely.

The first order of business is to print a copy of the photograph onto a sheet of white paper and copy the lines into shapes that can be cut in glass.

After printing a copy of Richard's photo onto a piece of plain paper (for color reference when shopping at the glass store) I take the three-mile trip down the road to my favorite place to shop.

The second photograph shows the aisles and aisles of different sized, shapes, textures and colors of glass that is available. This is one aisle of five so you can get an idea of exactly how much of a selection of glass is available.

The third photo was taken in the studio on top of the cutting table. Each piece of glass is cut based on color, texture and how the glass will fit visually into the final piece.

Stay tuned for additional photos. I'll finish cutting the glass and fitting it into the pattern which was drawn.

Swiss in Glass

This is a photograph of a beautiful little cottage sitting somewhere in the Swiss Alps.

It was sent to my by Richard Cruse who snapped the photo during a recent visit to Switzerland.

He has asked me to transform this photograph into a piece of stained glass artwork.

So far the challenge is developing nicely.

I'll update the progress by the end of the week. Then you can give me feedback on how I've done with his photograph.

Jewel-Toned Abstract Stained Glass

I love to look at the deep colors of the jewel-toned glass. This abstract piece was inspired by the pretty sapphire, emerald, ruby and amythist colored stones sitting in my jewelry box.

I've added pretty swirls to the pattern to mimic the curves of the jewelry.

Funky Sun Catcher

This pretty little sun catcher is made from three circular bevels of glass surrounded by emerald green and dark teal blue glass.

The rainbows of color that come out of the bevels are absolutely amazing.

(sold)

A pretty scarf hanging from a bedpost.

That was the inspiration I needed to run in and create this piece of stained glass.

I liked the way the fabric lays over itself and creates wavy lines in the colors of the fabric.

Arizona Palo Verde Tree

(sold)

Growing in my front yard is a very sturdy blue Palo Verde tree.

As I was watching my pretty calico kitty climb in the tree I quickly sketched a pattern then went into the studio to re-create the tree in glass.

Although Allie (the kitty) can't climb this tree, it hangs in a window in Canada.

Mexican Zarape

(sold)

Living in the Arizona desert allows me to go on many day trips.

On one of my recent trips, my family and I went down to Rocky Point, Mexico and camped out on one of the sandy beaches and took in the sights, sounds and flavors of Mexico.

While shopping I saw huge stacks of Mexican Zarape blankets which are created using bright, vivid colors and patterns.

So - I came back home and made this stained glass window panel using the colors of the Mexican Zarape blanket.

You may notice a small beaded charm hanging near the center of the piece. I added this little treasure in to represent the fringe that is added to the edges of the blankets.

Bird-Saving Stained Glass Iris

This panel was drawn and is being created for the sake of the birds.

A friend of mine has a window that birds love to fly into. However, by doing so, it usually hurts them badly or kills them.

In order to keep our feathered friends healthy and away from her window, I am making this pretty Iris stained glass panel to be hung in the window to ward off any suicide attempting birds.

This panel is currently in the work-in-progress stage. Check back soon for the completed piece.

Colors in this panel include kelly green leaves, dark aqua and dark blue for the petals of the iris and chunky clear for the back ground. The chunky clear glass is crafted in a way that it actually twinkles (like ice) when exposed to sunlight.

Luna - Goddess of the Moon

(sold)

Pictured above is Luna - Goddess of the Moon.

During the winter/spring solstice - the moon and the stars in the nighttime sky were remarkably clear. So I did a little research about the moon and found Luna.

Winter / Spring Solstice

(sold)

A five-piece beveled glass star shining in the center of the piece.

Looking at the nighttime sky I was inspired to make a piece with the different phases of the moon. The deep purple glass has whispy streaks of white running through it. They appear to be clouds, stars and the moon against the dark sky.

Eagle or Black Crow?

(sold)

It started out to be a black crow but it looks more like an eagle. I guess it can be whatever you want it to be.

Pictured above is a fused glass pendant made for the monthly eBay Nibblefest (NFAC) contest.

This pendant is made by painting a picture on a piece of off-white glass. When dry, another small piece of light amber colored glass is placed on top then fired in a kiln to reach 1480* over a time period of 14 hours.

NFAC is a monthly themed contest where artists create an item using a pre-determined theme for each month. Each artist is encouraged to use various mediums to create their art.

Feathered Friends is the theme for March. Every artists entering a piece will list one item beginning at .99 each and see where it goes from there.

So, search eBay for NFAC and see the pretty items available this month.
